Default differences b/w vafc and boost gauge

im hoping i have my boost controller set right because on my autometer boost guage im reading 8psi at full boost but when i hit the peak button on my vafc its only hitting .34 bar which is 5 psi.

now which one should i trust. if its my vafc then **** i need to turn up the boost.

wat do you guys think?

Its because of your Altitude. Your avatar says 4800ft right. A mechanical boost guage will read 0psi at any altitude, even though at 4800ft you are about 2.5psi below the normal Sea Level pressure. Thats where the difference is. The VAFC reads pressure from the MAP sensor (like any other electronic boost guage). Turn your car on, but do not start it. You'll notice that the VAFC reads a negative ammount. Convert that to psi. Then you will see that the VAFC and your mechanical boost gauge will be off that ammount.

There is less air pressure at your altitude, but the mechanical boost gauge does not recognise it. Normal Sea Level air pressure is 14.7psi. Here at 6000ft its about 11.7psi, so my Mechanical boost gauge differs 3psi from my MAP sensor.

Hope that helped.
