Default D16y7 Turbo, A FEW QUESTIONS!!!

I am not going to be running VTEC in my set up. From what I understand a P28 is the most chipped ECU out there. For my application could i use a p06(single non vtec) when i convert my ob2a to ob1? and also i plan to leave it auto, i understand there is a special harness for auto trannies. is this true or is it just a gimmick just to sell an entirely different harness. thanks for your help

But to answer your question yes you can run the p06 and yes you need that special harness.

Yeah... don't leave it auto. If you're gonna go through the trouble of turbocharging the engine... go through the trouble of learning 5-spd and get it.

LOL, learning 5-spd. I am not going to comment on that but thats for answering everyone. the reaosn i want to leave it auto is because its going to make it challenging. and if have to rip out the tranny, why not rip out the whole thing and drop in a vtec engine with a manual trnny from the start. i plan on doing a vtec swap eventually but i want to see how well i can do with the car as is. thanks again for the help.

yea, you seem to be wasting a lot of time, it's like taking 1 step forward and then backwards at full force in a wall, ditch the auto.. you can convert to manual in an afternoon, and god will like you better for it. Plus you know how lame you will look in an automatic.

LevelTen seems to only make stuff for Preludes, unless I missed a link.

Honda auto trannies suck ***. If a company could have made them to anywhere near sturdy enough, people would be using them.

I'm all for 'do what I can with what I've got' - but you can't polish turd bro.

a few years ago their was a turbo'd 12 sec d-series auto that had alot of level ten gear in it. the website lists the civic as well, as prelude accord, etc... i guess they just bundled everything together and want you to call for details. i'm not promoting the auto but if he wants to stay with it i might as well try and give him helpful suggestions. I do remember tci also doing torque converters for auto honda's but not sure on that one.

well you hit it right on the head. if i am gonna go ahead and by stuff for the tranny i will just swap out to a manual and possibly an entire d16 vtec. my challenge is to keep the stock stuff that came in the car, low budget, and just to see if i can even do it. Thats my main thing, this will be my first DIY project so i am tying to cut as many corners as i can. thkanks for all the help guys.

best advice i can give you is try not to cut any corners, doing things the wrong way is a recipe for destruction and means spending money to fix broken parts and that will blow your budget quickly.

Sadly, its the only way people can learn sometimes.

If people just opted to buy the biggest and baddest but could have gotten by for a few thousand cheaper and still met their goals, then money has really been wasted.

But that's a catch 22 - if you end up buying shitty components which break often, you would have come out ahead of the game had you bought quality parts.

So cutting corners is not the name of the game. Doing it cheaply is - there is a difference - and when you talk about auto trannies and the like, there is no such a thing as cutting corners. They are brittle as is without the additional torque of a turbo.

A 5-spd is really the way to go here. And yes you can use the P06 to control the Y7. I believe H-T user fjt is doing just that.
