Default vss (code 17)

im getting code 17 on my 88 hatchback dx....so i narrrowed it down to either these 3 items...speed sensor...speedo cable....cluster....ok i bought a 89 crx si cluster and vss last night...so i try on the cluster and nothing...still getting code 17....but the weird thing is that my rpm is bouncing around, the gas and temp gauges dont work well...the temp goes up a little after a while but the fuel stays down....also my hi-beam indicator isnt working....so i replaced that bulb with the stock one and nothing still.....did i get a hold of a bad cluster....or will having a bad vss affect the fuel gauge....cuz it doesnt know how fast im going??? also....did i get wrong cluster.....

I think the wiring is different between the hatch and the CRX. It may not work with the cluster.

As to what the previous post said... I think you need to replace your speedo cable from the tranny to the cluster

I think that most of the wiring is different under the dash. So yeah the wiring should be different. Anyone else know for sure?

I swapped a 90 crx si cluster into my 90 STD hatch and it works just fine. I had the VSS amp on the back of the cluster wired incorrectly and that was causing my code 17.
