Hey guys,
i was wondering if it would be any danger to remove the heat shield under my trunk. i have a 96. I looked at it yesterday and it not connected to anything just bolted up to my trunk. i was just thinking if i take it off my carped in the trunk will light on fire.. or an i just over thinking about it?

A heat shield is there to prevent carpets or any part of interior from catching on fire. Id leave the heat shields where there at.

are you refering to the heat shield thats located just above the muffler on the outside (underside) of the car? If so, I don't see why not. Is there a special reason why you want to remove it? I know that some people with Civic's and certain exhaust (example: 92-95 Civic hatch with an APEXi WS) have removed some or all of the heat shields for the exhaust because of issues with the exhaust hitting and rattling against the heat shield. No one expressed any concerns or that they had any adverse affects except for maybe a little increase in cabin temps. This is just hear-say though.
When I pt my WS2 on my 92 hatch it was hitting the heat shield in two spots. I was able to bang the heat shield out of the way in one spot and at the other I wrapped a piece of radiator hose around half the exhuast pipe and that dampened the vibrations and rattling. I personally didn't feel like removing the heat shield because I didn't want any higher temps in a car that didn't have A/C.
So again, why do you want to remove it? It weights basically nothing and really no need to remove it unless it's causing some problem.

eh.. i unno just seems like another part i dont need.. i know the header heat shield weighed a lot so i though this one might also... if i remove it i can just wrap it couldnt i
?
?
i took it off already its pretty light it wasnt made of the stuff i thought it was.. so i put it back on.. but i dont get why all of you said to leave it alone... maybe if i needed it i could see your point but no1 really answered my question if its needed... and since no1 did i dont want to wait and see if the carpet burns in my trunk... but... does any1 know by fact if its really needed or not?
