Replaced Dizzy, rattling like hell.. not valves... weird. ideas? (b16/stock)
I just replaced my distributor with a OBD1 TD-44u because my OBD2a distributor was going out on me.
The OBD2a dizzy fit really really snug in the cam shaft, so much so that when we put it on, we couldn't push it on - we had to tighten it down with the bolts and then it made 2 loud clicks but was on correctly. It's from an OBD2 B16 so it's correct for the engine don't see why the shaft sat differently.
So this OBD1 distributor is on, connected correctly, runs fine, off timing a hair.
RATTLES LIKE A SON OF A . ..
it sounds almost identical to valve tapping but a lil off key. When i listen to the valve cover with a screw driver, i don't hear anything over the valves, only the distributor housing. This is louder than valve tapping. Scares me
Why would the shaft be loose? anyone ever have this happen?
Is there a seal around the cam shaft that could cause it to move in an undesireable way and not spit oil out of the head? LOL There's no leakage.

the screw in the dizzy could be rattlin around, or the module might not be screwed to the casing or theres crap in it, take it off- take the cap out and see if there is any crap in it, it should have gone right in with little effort, you did something wrong, you should be able to just push it in even with a brand new o-ring it goes in easily, by tightning the bolts you may have broken something in the dizzy, take it off and check, it only takes 1 12mm wrench and 5 min to take out

foreal, a dizzy should always pop in - NEVER force anything

The dist's from some 92-93 gsr's have noisy shaft bearings. There was a service bulletin that addressed that issue but only affected certain cars in certain areas. Is it possible that the obd1 dist that you have has bad/noisy bearings? I've seen noisy bearings on many 94-01 LS integras.

LOL You people need to read the post better, The OBD2 distributor i had to "force" was perfectly fine and did not make this noise, the igniter went out on it. If i broke anything, it was the cam shaft. lol
But i do want to know, at what point could i have damaged the cam shaft that would cause a sound like that?
And it's a car, i can't count on 2 hands and both feet all the things you have to put force on to properly install. So blindly saying never force anything is the wrong answer.
If you've heard of that happening with an OBD2 dizzy shaft going into a 1st Gen B16 Cam shaft, that would be of interest.
