Default Engine Mounts

I am going to replace clutch soon and I wonder if I should also replace all engine mounts? They (mounts) all are original and has 197k miles on them. How would you tell if they need to be replaced or not? Thanks.

Does your car vibrate a lot when sitting at idle and then smooth out when you start to accelerate? If you car doesn't do this then you probably don't have any problems with you mounts. If you do, then first look at your front mount. I would say that mount is the one most prove to failing. The rubber ribs that go from the inside area to the outer area will be broken.

The other mount that might be bad would be the rear mount. I'm not exactly sure how to tell if the rear mount is bad or not. I know for automatics you use a vacuum guage or something to test it.

This is for a 5th gen Accord, it may be slightly different if you have a different year.

edit:
also, read through this, they list some other warning signs.

Check to see if any part of the rubber is ripped or torn. And if the rubber is all cracked up that is not a good thing either.

Either way, with that many miles on your car, replacing them would make for a smoother more comfortable ride
