Default Prelude SI already wired for VTEC? (not 56k friendly)

I am finishing up a h22a swap and noticed something a little weird... there are already wires where the pin specifies for me to put the VTEC wires I already ran.

I was like WTF? So I glanced around my engine bay and noticed that I had two rather pointless wires that connect to nothing and look very similar to the cut VTEC wiring cut offs I have on my new engine. Are these wires correct and should they look like this? If so, the only problem is they don't reach with the given amount of wire I have, but its no problem to cut and solder.

I have also searched and found that some Prelude SI trims have come with these wires so I I was just wondering if these look right for those of you who have had the same situation... i.e. you found your wires in a similar or same location. I also want to double check to make sure this isn't normal

This last one is a comparison between the clip that I cut off the JDM wiring harness to the clip that supposely runs from my car's wiring harness and plugs into nothing.

wow, that is the pic I needed yesterday to see where the VTEC wire clips up at.

I have heard that the SI's from 93-95 have the same harness as the VTEC model.

What harness do you have on the engine right now, the USDM or the JDM?

If you used the JDM what did you do to make it reach?

I am using the USDM wiring harness from my old H23... however the clip wasn't on that harness, the blue and yellow/green VTEC wires run from my ECU to the engine bay and appear to be taped and clipped down. The wire length is too short to reach the engine so I will probably just cut off a peice of my current wire and solder it in line.

I used the JDM harness and extended it to reach.

You could just cut the wire and the plug off of the JDM harness and extend it to make it reach the plug you already have.

i believe that blue wire with the cover on it is for hooking up a test tach.

Yeah, the blue plug is for diagnostic work.

I don't know that any specific years or models came with the VTEC wiring. It seems pretty random . . . some people have it, others don't. So, if it's already there, consider yourself lucky and just get your car running already!

Wow people... This is common info if you would look around in the FAQ... All 93+ preludes are prewired for VTEC, even if they did not come with a VTEC engine... Here is a pic the shows where the VTEC solenoid wire(green/yellow) is and where the Oil Pressure Switch wire(light blue) is... Then all you need to do is run a ground from the other pin on the oil pressure switch connector... I ran the ground to the thermostat housing since it is right there...(Sorry for the blurry pic)

I didn't find this in the FAQ... sorry if I didn't search enough, but I searched for a while and did find out that it does happen. The only thing is the according to this link: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1004852
the wires don't match up in my harness... one of those wires is a different color and the other one doesn't have a wire (assuming the tiny blue asterick means VTEC wires)

In the pin out I am using from preludeonline h22 swap walkthrough agrees with my harness though: http://www.preludeonline.com/s...85281

So thats slightly conflicting I think, maybe I am just looking at the diagrams incorrectly.

ANYHOW... yea your pic is a little blurry, but thats ok. So the light blue wire is stuck in a bundle of wires where every wire is connected to a mating pair except for the light blue one right? The connectors clip on next to the fuse box, I believe its the set that is higher up than the other set?

Does that sound about right? Because I am going to start cutting and soldering so I don't want to make a mistake

Thanks!

Yes that is absolutely correct...

EDIT: Here is a better pic of the wire locations in case anyone still needs them...

awesome, thanks for the pic! I just went out and bought some stuff I needed so I am going to triple check this with the digital multimeter I picked up just to really cover my rear so I don't run the risk of damaging something

thanks for the pic. I had a 92 S harness. I had to add 3-4 wires.
