Default '88 LXi BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT

Hi All! I am planning to replace the driver side upper ball joint on my almost "classic" Coupe. The part I bought has the ball attached to the control arm. Is this a straight up replacement -- just removing the bolts -- or is some kind of strut/spring compressing necessary? Obviously, I don't want to get into a driveway job that I can't complete. What can you tell me? Thanks. Ray

Check a manual, from there decide if you can do it in your driveway or not.

Pretty much an easy replacement if you have the complete arm assy.

in-and-out procedure. just watch out for stuck bolts, and have a picklefork for the upper ball joint seperation. that's the only way i've been able to get them free.

the only way these can be replaced is by replacing the entire arm. it's one piece, and it can't be taken apart.

They can be taken apart, I used to replace the bushings in them. Honda sells the arms and bushings seperate if you want to get off a little cheaper.

i would remove the nut holding the balljoint on, then take a lrge hammer and whack the knuckle just below the balljoint it usually pops right out.
tyhen remove the 2 anchor bolts that hold the arm in, and put the new arm with ball joint in it a,d bolt it all back together.

the bushings aren't what i was referring to. i was referring to the fact that the upper control arm and the upper balljoint can't be seperated.

Default THANK YOU!

After comparing the replacement part against what's on the car PLUS what's been mentioned here I think I can handle this repair with minimum difficulty. My major concern was that I might have had to compress the spring but I see that's a non-issue. Thanks. I'll Be Back! See ya' Ray
