If everything is in good condition and the only thing you're concerned about is the high mileage motor, this sounds like the perfect car to buy and swap an H22 into it! Presto, perfect car, new engine!

Default Highest mileage??? (Bimmer99)

Hey Bim,
I have 300K on my '88 LXi coupe. It's not without problems but the engine still runs well burning about 1qt. oil every 1K or so. Also, the auto trans bangs a bit going into third. I can't afford anything better so I live with it. Anyway, if the car is maintained as you say, for $500 I don't think you can go wrong. I'd sure take the chance if I needed a car. Just do it! See ya' Ray

I've got a 93 EX 5-speed with 333,000 miles on her. Left me stranded Twice the entire time I owned it, once was a bad distributor which honda fixed at around 86,000 miles and even gave me a rental I had no idea it was still under warranty.

And the second time was at 329,000 miles on a tour of the six flags on the eastern half of the US. First the original fan ceased up and melted out of it's bracket, (60 bucks installed at a junk yard) and we were on our way again, and then in the middle of texas the original radiator blew up. Go figure it was like 102 and I'm sure the fan going didn't help.

Other than that the engine just passed emissions with no problems (original cat) original struts although it does bob a bit more than I'd like, original CV joints (boots were replaced) it is on it's second alternator, the original went due to the dealer adjusting the belt too tightly and wearing out the bearings. I burn about half a quart per 3,000 miles, which I don't think is half bad, the car is practically indestructible, OH and the A/C still works. Been charged once since I owned it. Pretty good car if you ask me.
