Default But I dont wanna use empty fuse bays

I want to add some power equipment to my 88 civic dx, my friends? tell me to throw it in an empty fuse bay and put a fuse over it. I don't want to for obvious fire hazard reasons. I am confident in my splicing skills but I dont know where or what I could splice the wires to.

I don't see the obvious fire hazard in using a fuse. It's there to protect a circuit. You could almost say that splicing **** in is more of a fire hazard. What's the big problem with using a fuse?
