how often do you have to replace the battery? ive had the same battery for 4 years now.

what are some common signs of the battery going out or needing a replacement? can you take it to an autozone or something for them to check and charge it or should i just buy a new one?

 

The battery should have the lifespan written on it..And that's when you should technically change it ..But you can get some more out of it usually..But yeah autozone tests it for free as well as the alternator..

 

Once it takes longer to turn the car on.

well, since i drive a manual that's easy to pushstart, i usually wait until it gives me problems.

 

you probably just doomed that battery. as all have said the car will not start as quick. you might also notice things dim when other components are turned on like the lights or ac.

yeah i do notice that things are dimming. is it a sign of i need a new one or can it just be charged

dimming can be caused by bad grounds, weak alternator, weak battery, and of course a couple other things. whatever it is, it usually puts more stress on the battery, though.

first, i'd go for the cheap and clean up the grounds and positive cables, and get your alternator tested, but since your battery is old, it's probably just at it's time.

a couple weeks ago, i replaced one that was 5.5 years old. but i don't have a boomin' system in my car.

 

man anytime ive had the battery for four or more years as soon as it starts to not fire up the car right away i change it. sears diehard makes the best but they are expensive so now i just go to costco and pick up the cheaper ones.
