Default Clunking/knocking after changing clutch??

89 civic lx
130,000 or so miles

Changed the clutch the other day. Now when I start it up it makes a clunking knocking noise. It makes the noise as soon as I start the car up and does it with the clutch in or out. It does it in gear as well. Now when I try to go forward it feels like the e-brake is on. I did pull on the passenger side axle when I was trying to remove it from the tranny and it pulled apart. It went back together though. The noise sounds so bad I don't want to drive the car and it doesn't seem like it wants to go forward. It will go forward it just feels like the brakes are on or something. The rear main seal leaked a little bit not bad. I had the flywheel resurfaced. Engine/tranny did seem to have a lot of movement like the mounts were bad. Fans weren't hitting on anything.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

did you adjust tthe clutch cable?

sounds like your throw out bearing is always in contact with the pressure plate

I changed my throwout bearing and it seem to go on alright and I tried it after I put it on and it worked fine. Huh? Could have moved around I suppose.

I only used my one tool set and all sockets and such are their.

Anyone else?

Thanks

I probably did not torque them to spec. I tightened the **** out of them.
I myself am wondering if I didn't tighten them to too tight.
My rear main leaked. Some of my friends say a main bearing could have went while reefing the tranny back into place.

Anybody?

im 100% sure thats your problem.... time to take it apart.

Those bolts are only supposed to be 19 ft/lbs.

when the pressure plate is luse the clutch plate will move around, up/down around, but as you tighen it snugs it up, but not to the point where its too tight. What is happing right now is the pressure plate is always inguaged which is why it feels like its braking.

take it apart and torque them to 19lbs, im sure u will feel a word of difference

I used a 3/8th drive ratchet to tighten these bolts. I tightened them about as tight as I could go sitting under the car. So you think I tightened them over 19 ft-lbs huh? I probably did. Damnit!

You sure that is it before I go and tear the damn thing apart.

Note: Car makes clunking/knocking noise after clutch installation. Noise is constant with clutch in or out.

Thanks guys your real damn helpful,

It sounds like you installed the throwout bearing wrong. Or you broke the pressure plate fingers and they are rattleing inside the tranny.

none of those would casue the 'braking' feeling he is having...

Most likely a misaligned clutch.

the imput shaft has to line up with the clutch plate....the transmission wont go on if the clutch plate is missalighned
