replacing steering rack...any tips & tricks???
Convince a nice friend to do it for you.
I'd say use a hoist, it would be much easier, oh and of course an air gun.

haha i tried to convince friends, but they've been there and done that so it didnt go over so well haha.
so remove the shift linkage, i remember i was told to not use a fork or else ill rip the boot on the trailing arm. unfortunetly ill have to be doing this with jack stands and a jack as i dont have a life available to me...sux *** but the rack chose the wrong weekend to get replaced. lol

if i leave a step out, sue me or bitch at me or something, but i'll try to say what it took with mine.
1)jack up the front of the car, pop off the outer tie rod ends. pickle fork should work, because you'd be crazy to reuse them.
2)go inside the car, take off the black cover under the dash that goes over the bottom of the steering column, take the bolt all the way out that goes through the bottom most clamp on the steering gear
3)go under car, take off shift linkage, bang the bitch pin out with something flat, like a punch made for it or something. search and you'll see what i mean
4.)take off the downpipe on the exhaust, be prepared to have PB Blaster. it works a lot better than wd 40 or anything like that for rusted bolts.
5.)theres 4 bolts holding up the steering rack, take them out, and manuever the rack out of there, there's a trick to it, if i remember right, you have to twist it so that the shaft that connects to the steering wheel points down, slide it to the passenger side to get the driver's tie rod assembly out, and then pull it out the rest of the way
as almost always, installation is the reverse of removal.
