I have an 88 CRX Si that was fully gutted and had an aluminum dash. It had the little blue vin screwed onto and a few weeks later I got tired of the dash and put the stock one back on. Well I've misplaced the little vin plate and now I'm pretty much screwed on driving my car around with it. Can you buy a replacement Vin plate from Honda if you show proof of the vehicle and such? Someone please help!!

I work at a body shop and according to my local Honda dealer, NO they don't make them anymore.

 

So I guess that I am fucked then?

Isn't it illegal to not have the vin right there on the driver side dash? I mean I guess I could point out that on the door jam and such but what would I tell the cop that I don't have one?

 

yeah You're only really gonna get **** from a meter maid for parking tickets. **** your VIN # is stamped into your firewall too.

edit. tell the cop that a rock smashed your windshield and damaged the dash where the vin plate used to be.

Thanks for easing my paranoia guys I was just scared because I don't want any **** from cops.

 

when the cop asks you y theres no vin on the dash and he starts giving you **** tell him..."maybe i changed the dash because it was runind and i took the junkyard dash's vin off so i wouldnt have the wrong vin on my car....then call him an idiot drive off and dont say nothing

 

CHP, they will inspect your car if you want another plate

Don't be a jackass

It was a simple question. Don't be a dick, just because there are answers in other places, doesn't mean they can't ask here.

 

Honda never has and never will issue replacement VIN plates. They will refer you to get your car inspected by the local state/province authorities so you can get a state/province issued replacement VIN number with a different set of numbers.
