Default Blown motor (almost)

My '95 Accord LX sounds aweful. A rod is trying to free itself from the block. Where can I get a quality set of bearings and gaskets for cheaper than OEM? I looked into the F22B DOHC swap but the best price I've found so far is around $800 w/o shipping. HELP!!! I love the car but unless I can motorvate it for around $400 it's on it's way out.

Bad news, If indeed your connecting rod is about to depart to the automotive afterlife, you're going to find that a set of bearings and a "Hail Mary" isn't going to make it.
Once you open up your f22b2, you'll most likely find the crankshaft is scored from the suspect bearing going "funky". At that point you'll be close to the 800.00 price for the JDM F22B1 for parts alone (Crankshaft, Bearing set, Oil pump, gasket set and sundry bits and pieces). Labor is another thing entirely.
Actually, considering that you'd have to pay sales tax, property tax and the sale price on a new ride you know nothing about, swapping in a new engine may make better economic sense than you think. It might be worth looking at the "real" economics b4 you decide

The labor is no problem but I've never gotten a JDM motor before. Could you refer me to a good source?

Although I've attempted to research JDM sites for my own education (H22 swaps and such), I've never (to this Point) purchased anything from them, and for that reason I hesitate making any recommendations.
What concerns me about internet transactions of this magnatude are several points
1) Warranty and getting recourse if the engines' no good (how well is it honored)
2) Return shipping expenses.
3) Japan must be overrun with wrecked Preludes if you believe all these "JDM" sourses are selling true JDM engines. I suspect otherwise

I would rather work with a local (or regional) salvage yard that I could physically "haunt" if I was treated poorly, and I would use a credit card so I had recourse if I was sold a bad engine.

Woodfin's auto salvage comes to mind as a sourse:

Perhaps others can recommend a JDM sourse they've had good luck with.

One thing you might consider is researching JDM sites (Google Search brings up bunches) that offer installation along with internet sales. You stand a MUCH better chance of getting a good engine from someone who installs what they sell.

I just don't want you to run into some clown running a nifty Internet business out of a slick web site and a stall at Bubba's Mega Storage. Bad feelings there !!!
