Hondata ECU - what's in there?
Hey guys - I'm contemplating getting the Hondata setup for my car. Alan at A&J says I should stay with the ECU I'm using now (Mugen N1 with custom map) because the ECU processor speed for the Hondata is inferior. I don't know what to think anymore since most information these days is heresay. What I want to know is if anyone has any information regarding the guts of the Hondata ECU/chip? I know it's either an EPROM or reburnable EEPROM - but what is the processor speed and how does it compare to the stock ECU?
the reason for going with a hondata is that you are still using your stock ecu for the maps.

So if you allready have a rom programmer(don't ask), would you just get stage 3?
People with the stage 4 software and a rom programer can program any lower level of hondata(1-3).
Thats also how dealers can tune your ecu.

thats funny, but yes, a OBDII ecus use much quicker processors, but Hondata offers alot more tunability...even though the EPROM speed is slower it makes no difference...we're taling about nanoseconds not secs...
Hondata is not a piggyback, it uses it's own maps, unlike a piggyback which operates in + or - units from the stock map.
The aem is also a bit more expensive and still doesn't offer full throttle launch and full throttle shift.
If I had lots of cash or a need for management above and beyond my ecu I'd go with hondata.

no hondata is not a piggyback. Hondata is more of a modification to you factory ECU, while the piggyback works in conjuction with your factory ecu.
Also hondata is cheaper than the AEM/motec/powerFC/haltech.
I dont know what kind of mods you have but figure out how much tuning you need/want. Datalogging would be nice though.
One more thing, unless you have a dealer w/dyno or you get the stage 4, you will not have the ability to burn new programs on your own. Something to keep in mind.
i heard http://www.hondata.com has some good info on this topic
