Removing power steering- worth the extra hp or more hassle?
i was thinking of taking off the power steering pump off to get some more power and take some weight off (about 12 lbs worth). is it worth it? how much different is it to drive w/o power steering? my car is my daily driver so i dont want it to be a workout everytime i drive my car
its not hard to drive, just a little harder to turn when your parking, thats it. you'd get used to it though and forget you ever had power steeering

Honestly, if you were driving a boat, like a Buick or something, power steering is kinda essential parallel parking, but I parallel park my CRX atleast 5 times a day and have 0 problems without power steering. You won't even notice it's gone after a week. While you are driving there is absolutely NO difference.
My EK doesn't have power steering, and I never notice. After driving it for a couple of months, u won't even notice u don't have power steering, even when in park. You won't notice it on the freeway or ever, until you have to parallel park or turn the wheel from a stop. It helps build your forearm strength. lol.
unless your car is completely gutted 12lb won't speed you up at all.... go on a diet. You can lose 14lb in one week with atkins diet (Being realistic) if your car came with power steering connected and working don't bother it. cause when you turn the wheel you will feel all that stuff not being powered anymore. I see the guys struggling with the steering wheel all the time. Don't be one of those guys
Man I have an 86 Dodge Ram that I drive everyday with no power steering and that bitch is heavy, when I get in the rex I can't even tell that it is missing the power steering. you will be fine the car doesn't weigh enough to worry about it.
Just cuz the engine came with a PS pump, dosnt mean you have power steering... You know that right? You need a whole steering rack, among other things... So are you sure you have power steering?
As for noticing, my old car had it, the CRX I drive now dosnt... Coming from that one to this one was a pain at first... Like the other posts say, youll only notice while your driving slow, such as to park the car... You will have to spin the wheel around quite a few times... Where as power steering you just turn in one direction and the PS system does the rest of the work... But while your driving you wont even notice it... I personally would leave it, if you have it...
Course if you dont have the whole PS system, and the pump is hooked up to the crank pulley, unhooking it is a good option, youll save some weight and some parasitic drag on the engine...

That's with A/C, the whole A/C system weighs WAY more than the PS system.
