swapping out my D
I have a '98 civic ex, all stock...buddy of mine is selling his '90 integra ls for $400, 136k miles on the engine, i told him i'd take it. i plan on swapping out my d16 for the b18b(dohc, non vtec) in his LS...this'll be my first swap, am i setting myself up for a huge headache? or should this swap go fairly smooth? $3g's is my budget, what, if anything, will i need to buy to make this swap a complete success? sorry if this is another broken-record post, but i'm new here =P
top left corner of the page, theres this button called search, works wonders. if you know a few things about cars the swap shouldn't be very difficult at all, provided you have all the right tools and such.
The motor your getting is I belive a b18a1 since it's from a 90 integra. 1994+ integra motors have b18b
You can always consider building up an LS/Vtec motor or go with the b18 turbo

don't know of any shops around here that do swaps....i've been doing some more searches and keep seeing OBD1 engines, which is what i think the 90 ls engine is, won't pass emitions in an OBD2 car, which is what i think my 98 civic is...that's why i asked if i was setting myself up for a big headache, can anyone explain the OBD# stuff? or at least direct me to a FAQ or somethin...
don't bother... you have 127 in the D with probably less than 136k miles and you''re gonna spend 3g's for 13 hp to bump it up to 140??? dude, turbo that D with that 3g's and you'll hit 220 no problem
also, with all the car nonsense happening in carlisle, PA i'm sure there are shops that do swaps

funny, i pretty much decided to scratch that idea a few minutes before i read your post, as i had in my head it was a b18b, but lookin at the specs of the A, there really is no point in doing all that work for nothing...ahhh, gotta love carlisle....i'll shop around, as i want an engine with nice stock specs, and i'm sure the newer they are the easier they are to swap in..
found a complete bolt-on turbo kit for a d16 on ebay for $580, might give that a whirl

What brand is the kit? SSAC or Xauto or something like that are ****.
Back to the swap question. 90-93 (I think) are OBD0, 94-something tegs(92-95 civic) OBD-1, and everything else up is OBD-2.

Thanks, I wasn't really sure how it went. Just knew that 90 tegs were OBD0 and 92-95 civics were OBD-I

that looks correct to me, i wouldnt wanna try to tackle that swap, even if u dont have emissions your setting your self up for some major hurdles, like converting the tranny linkage from hydro to cable or vice versa, plus a lot of other things that im not gonna even get into, yes the motor is a b18a, b18b motors arent all that expensive might as well get one of those and save the headaches for later

im in pa also yea ive put 90 integra motors in 92-95 civics and 96-00 sell the cable trans get a hydro...... get and 94-00 integra intake mainfold with throttle body all sensors and a 96-00 integra distributor ls for u should be cool if u just get the tranny distributor and intake mainfold should be ok
scratch that $580 turbo kit idea too man, that'll be nothing but headaches... search around on here, learn up and buy yourself a nice kit or piece one together. I'm partial to piecing it together because you'll learn more in the process.
