How can I tighten my shifter bushing?
Ok, heres the story...I bought my car about a week ago. It came with a short shifter, but I don't know the brand. It moves around alot, even when in gear. I jacked my car up tonight and look underneath to see if I can tighten a bushing. But when I looked at my shift linkage, it was weird. And I have no idea how to tighten it. Here are some pics, can somebody help me out?

And for just ***** and giggles, heres a pic of my car. And yes I know I need rims...

well, that doesn't look right to me. It seems that the original pice that went in between the shift linkage and the part of the tranny that goes to it is not right. It seems like your shifter can move everywhere and when in gear it still moves, if so you need to get a pin that is made for that becuase my girlfriend bought a 92 hatch and it had a bolt in between and it moved like all hell. Check your local junk yards or dealer for one. They are all the same, 92-00 i now for sure. By the way they area a bitch to get out and its good to have a nice size punch that fits and give it a few swings.
Hope i helped

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stop you are wrong
Everything is right just pull the boot over the clip.
You will need to check your bushings first for wear, so shake the shiftlinkage see if you got any movement. There are two bolts that you can tighten one on the tranny and one at the shifter. Just jack up the car high enough and you will see.

Ok, thanks man. So that rubbery part, just pull it over that silver thing, or what? Also, where are the bushings that need to be tightened located? That whole thing moves when I move the shifter.
Also, any idea on what short shifter it is?
Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it!

Well I can't tell you what short shifter it is, unless you snap at least 2 pictures of it from inside the car (expose as much as you can), and underneath the car.
And to tighten your shifter inspect your bushings see if they are not worn out first. If they aren't tighten all the bolts that are in the shiftlinkage slightly (don't break them).

Ok, cool. Thanks man. I looked at em today and it looks like I need new bushings. I plan on just buying a new short shifter with new bushings. I plan on buying a shifter package from Robear, somethin like the Skunk2 Shifter, **** and Bushing Package.
When I bought the car, the guy that had it before me had the stock shift linkage or a "Type R" one and gave that to me. I am worried that I have a cheap aftermarket shift linkage in there. Anyway to tell or any company actually make shift linkages that are cheap? Again, thanks for the help, appreciate it.

wow, alright when you bought the car did it have type-r stickers on it?
first off did you even have any bushings in there?
Just tighten up the 12mm Nut and bolt that goes where the actual shifter is at underneath the car.. don't over tighten

I've tried to tighten it up, but it doesn't seem to tighten enough. Don't want to tighten it up too much and mess it up. I am just going to buy a new shifter and bushings from Robear, the Skunk2 package. I planned on getting a new short shifter anyway sometime in the future, since I don't know the shifter in the car already .
