Default My NA SOHC build

Just wanted to share some before and after pics of my lil D16Z6 with ZC pistons and a Y8 head. Just building this motor to hold me over for my LSV build. Im taking my B16 out and throwing this mean machine in so I wont have any down time since Im going to be using my B16 head. Depending on how long this motor stays in my car I will prolly get a cam for it also.

If anyone is running a setup like this or know of anything.....what ECU should I run for this motor? I have a PR3 and a CRX si ecu, both are chipped by my friend and hes not sure what fuel maps and timing maps to run for this. Since there is no OBD0 SOHC Vtec motor. He knows a lot about ECUs, Turbo edit, Chrome, and he can data log. We will prolly end up buyin a wideband. So any help with what kind of tuning I should look for this motor will be appreciated.

This motor should be going in my CRX within the next couple of days....friggin rain down here in south FL. Supposed to be the Sunshine state, my ***.

Welp, the motor went in today with ease. Fired up and rumbled to life on a stock B16 fuel and ignition map. My friend and I have to tune this thing by the seat of our pants. Since its an OBD0 car with a OBD1 motor that is supposed to readin OBD1 Vtec maps, we have to modiy a PR3 fuel and ignition.....since there is no OBD0 SOHC Vtec motors.

We test drove it and it felt sluggish. Messed with timing a lil, fuel a lil (very little) to see if we can find what to tune. I started adding fuel with my VAFC and it felt like the motor wanted more fuel. So we ended up addin 25% more fuel than a B16 across the whole board.

Motor started to feel a lot better. I have Vtec coming in at 5 and when that hits it feels real good. I only brought it up to about 6 grand (not to smart on fresh rings...bearings were reused since they didnt have many miles on them and looked good.) Only thing fresh are the rings.

The compression is somewhere around 13 to 1 I believe with my Y8 head.

We are going to do some more tuning and a lot more guessing tomorrow.

Since I got some replies on this I will post some more pics. Every one like pics right?

Oh, I also bought a DC sports 4-1 ceramic header from some kid for 40 bucks and a six pack of 7oz beers.

Heres the changing of the gaurds.

You can barely see the header under my buddys arm pit. He is my tuner and good friend.

Enjoy, I will keep you guys updated on how it runs and whatnot. Im going to have it dynoed and all that good stuff later on down the road.....not to far away though.

Matt

Oh, and if anyone has any ideas on what to do about the tuning I would apperciate it!

matt, ask brad if you can borrow that hanes sock intake and use it to dampen that raspy sounding muffler. That thing sounds more like my 2 stroke paramotor than a honda 4 banger. when r we going to race?

Well, I got an update.....

I thought I blew her up last night. Doing some more street tuning, butt dyno, readin the spark plugs, all the non high tech way of tuning. My buddy was driving, went to pull a U-turn and all of a sudden it started to sputter and back fire in first gear.....then nothing. Tryed to turn her over and nothing at all, just the starter spining, sometimes the starter sounded like it was gettin hung up. Had some back firing, out of the intake and exhaust.

Woke up this morning, went to work on it and told my pops what was up. (Mechanic for over 40 years) He said timing. I should of known hince the backfiring out of the intake and exhaust. Crank was dead on, crank gear dead on, he told me to pull the cap from the dist, I did and heard something fall.

The friggin one lil screw that holds the rotor on rattled loose. So the rotor wasnt spinning. This is actually the second time this has happend to me. Happend once before with my B16. So from experience....PUT LOCKTITE ON THAT BITCH!!!

Got the motor running healthy now. Running a lil rich, but thats how I wanted it till I get it on the dyno. Planning on hittin the dyno this coming Satuday. I am running PR3 B16 fuel and ignition maps. But there isnt really anything stock about the maps. Added fuel in Vtec (comes in at 5000) and took out timing, below Vtec we took out fuel and added timing I think, honestly I cant even remember.....we did so much.

Same here, I love SOHC build-ups. Update once dyno pulls are in.

I must say, I am pretty impressed with the torque it feels it has and it is a pretty fun motor to drive.

I might have to put off the dyno day for this Saturday...Im portin and polishin a Z6 manifold and throwin my old B16 throttle body on. Get some more air in there. Im running a A6 manifold now.

Pic of the single slammer in its holster...and the Jim Fab lookin up at you.

My port job on the mani....just the TB for now, didnt get to the runners today. 60mm

And of corse my high performance NA oil cap.

Will let you guys now the Dyno numbers when they are in.
