well, every driver has a different method of breaking an engine in. my method on breaking engines in goes like this, i take it up 1k after every 100th mile, because if you baby it like some people say then hit 1k miles and then start to redline it your exposing an engine to revs its never seen before.
it should beat the focus but the SE-R.... your gona want to get a few mods.
VTEC is different in the Si, its actually only VTC or something like that, im sure some one could elaborate. but it does work best when your flooring it.
but the engine is responsive to turbo :D.
make sure you lower it, it will handle so much better

your car has "economy" vtec its only on the intake lobe and basically switches your car from 12 to 16 valve mode youll need to do an engine swap to the k20a2 if you want the real thing this will explain it better for you

it was like 19 something but it had like the pin stripe and wind **** and all that took it to like 20k but i talked to guy down to 18,100. I went hagerstown honda and they werent going to get anymore in but the guy called and said he could get me a white one in and he would sell it to me for 18.6. and we got to talkin and im like well i might goto antrim way honda and hes like dont do that man we can give u a much better deal and everything and we got to talkin and the guy fucked up majorly. he was like us and antrim way have rivalry and antrim way likes to drive by with signs that say they will knock off 500 of our price and i told the guy i would be back just had to go home and make some phone calls. I went home called antrim way and they had 2 si civics and the white one was pending a sale. so me and my dad went out to antrim way and i saw the black si. A guy came out and i pointed and said black si. I'm actually glad i went there. The guy who went with me on a test drive was cool as ****. We got bout 2 miles away from the dealership i was at bout 40 mph and with 17 miles on the car he was like drop it down to 2nd and take it to about 7k rpms. And i was like okay i reved that bitch up dropped it down to 2nd went and slammed 3rd and cherped. lol it was great i reccomend anyone in the greencastle area to goto antrim way if they are going to buy a honda and talk to andrew, hes a good guy. But anyways i paid 18,100 for it. Not too bad.

Thanks for the reply StraightCivic. I'm live in SoCal area and apparently the Si isn't selling very well. Maybe it's the difference in location but my asking price is $16,800 and dealers are calling me left and right to come in with a check. Of course the price is without tax & license which would bring it to about $18,300. Hope this helps for anyone else interested in a new Si.

Out here you'd sell every one you could bring.
As soon as everybody realised the 2005 was the last USDM EP3, the popularity shot way up out here.

C'mon, now.
If he's going to spend $24K on the car he might as well have waited for the 2006 model.

i-VTEC has constantly variable valve timing and it's not so reliant on engine speed as the older VTEC was.
For example, with i-VTEC, if you are in fifth gear at low RPM, and you put your accelerator foot down, you will get relatively more power than you would with the older VTEC. The new i-VTEC alters the cam timing, spark advance and fuel map all at once to get the most out of a given situation that it's possible to get out of it.

same around here guys when i got mine they dealership cudnt get anymore in. they even tried trading dealers 05 accords for them and they wudnt do it. i wanted a white one and they made some calls and i was there and they cudnt get anymore so i got black. and i like the all around vtec. it helps u a lot i think. i think i remember back then ppl were saying on diff forums bout how they wish vtec worked better cuz it seemed they were slower until the vtec kicked in.

I didnt say anything about price I simply pointed out the difference between the A3 and A2/A ivtec systems. maybe he should have waited if there changing the motor in 06 and it was that big of a deal to him.

You intended for him to gather that he had bought an inferior product and that he would need to do a swap for "the real thing."
That swap is expensive.
Hence my comment that if he wanted to spend that much money all at once, he might as well have waited for the 2006. Or I guess he might've bought a USDM DC5 Type S to start with.

Basically, this head does not breath well compared to the K20A2. It seems designed for low end torque, emissions and economy.
The K20A2 head uses three cams per pair of inlet valves on both the exhaust and inlet. The low lift cams on this head are probably very similar to the high lift cams on the K20A3. The high lift cams engage at 5800 rpm and disengage at 5600 rpm.</TD></TR></TABLE>

The truth does not hurt. But you were trying to hurt him with facts selectively disseminated from that truth.
Using key words like "the real thing" would seem to indicate a derisive tone.
I apologise if I misinterpreted your intent.
