Default code 4 Crank Angle Sensor (already researched)....

.... But didnt find a situation simularr to mine.

91 crx si. obd 0 dizzy and ecu. I am gettting code 4 but no check engine light. theh car starts up and runs and drives fin untill I get over 5-6000 Rpm. Thats when my CEL comes on and my car runsn like crap.
If I tutrn off the car and start it back up, the light goes away and theh car drives fine again.
I checked all the wiring and everything seems to be good. Do I need tot replace the entire dizzy or can i just replace the sensor in question?
If it can be replaced, how dod you do it. I removed the cap and rotor but couldntn locate the screws that hold it in place. The obd 1 dizzy has 2 screws thaht hold it on.( might be the ignitor I am looking at) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely what is happening is the bearing
inside the distributor is failing..
(Common problem with the Honda..)

The pick-up inside is magnetic so once the bearing starts to shread,
The metal sticks to the pick-up and distorts the signal to the ecu..

that makes really good sense.i have been studing this prroblem from other threads and havent read it explained like that.

I just came from driving the car and it started showing classic code 4 symptoms.
-CEL on start up
-only able to rev to 3300 rpms, only this time, cuctting the car off and starting it back up didnt make that CEL turn off.
At any rate Driving it home with little powere, I experienced a new and strange problem
i heard a release of pressure and smoke came pouring from out from under the hood. i immediatly killed the ignition and coasted to the shoulder. Popped the hood and oil was everywhere.
I could net find the sourch of the leak but oil was on the hood underneath, it was all over the oil pan, and the front of the block below the header.
-nothing on the back near the oil pressure sending unit
-nothing near the oil pump
-no oil on the tranny below the dizzy
-Dipstick reads full .
I workedup the guts to startthe car and look for a leak and could not find one. no oil dripping on the ground.
to my suprise, the CEL went off and I drove home under power.
I am definatle getting a new dizzy asap but whats up with the oil ?
any theories will be taken seriously
thanks

maybe because the dist bearing is shot there's oil leaking around the dist seal. And because its spinning its spitting oil everywhere. The smoke you saw probably occured when it hit the header

That was one of my fisrt thoughts but it is dry below the distributor where in would normally leak if the o-ring was worn out.

I am currently searching for another distributor. Which honda distributors are compatible with an obd-0 si crx
-accord?
-obd-0 ls integra 87-89? 90,91?
-
obd-0 prelude 88-91?
thanks

my lil bro has the same problem but with his D15B, it wont rev over 3500 rpm's.. we are also in the process of getting a new dist for it to see if it would fix the problem.

ok...looks like civic crx mpfi Dizzy is the only one that will work. I am going to get a new one. or rather , another one. Its too bad that you cant rebuild these. I have read lots of posts on here about people with code 4 problems and its the exact same everytime. Cant rev past 3500.
Mine actualy runs great below 6000 rpms but if i go too high, then i get my check engine light and cant rev to 3500. But if I re-start the engine, it drives fine again.
It seems like alot of people have ignitor problems with their distributors too.
I will post the results of my replacement dizzy after I find one.
