When i go to try and get the car to drive it wont go anywhere. however i can get it in gear if i use the key to disengage it. its like the locking mechanism is stuck or is not gettting the signal it needs to operate on its own. i checked all my fuses and all seem to be working properly. could it be a relay? if so where can i find it?
thanks for your help
thanks for your help
Check to see if your brake lights work when you depress the brake pedal. If not, then it's your stop lamp switch, it controls the shift interlock also.
Yup, when you hit the brake you should hear a click..mine went bad on my dx so I took off the console and chopped the thing off, no need to put a key in the override all the damn time.

i take it its a bitch to remove? how do i disable it withou having to cut off ****?
thanks!
thanks!
It's just 2 wires that go onto the fuse block under the dash. I'd advise against it for safety reasons but it can easily be bypassed.

HEy dont cut the wires. just go and buy the damn bulb. it like 2 dollars. then you dont have to worry about cops pullin you over.

This is a picture from underneath the dash,
The thin bar in the middle is the brake pedal, next to the steering column covering, the brake switch is at the top of the brake pedal.
The duct tape is there because the plug that was on the brake pedal to depress the switch has deteriorated and fell out.
Your car should look similar underneath except it won't have a clutch pedal on the left.
