Sanding body for paint
My car is silver in color with two blue racing stripes down teh middle ( i know, PO) I have been sanding down the stripes ever since I got it and I am finally ready to do the bumpers. Now since they are plastic, can I use the same grit as for the metal pieces or will I have to use a different grit?
What grit would you guys recommend to getting the blue stripes off and then, what grit to prepare the surface for paint?
Thanks in advance.

Not exactly welding or fabricating related but what the hell.
First, to remove the old paint, stripes and the grey color, start with 120 or so, then if your going to prime then paint go to 220 wet and stop. If you are planning on just scuffing the old paint and then reshooting, go 120, 220, 320 wet and that should be good for the paint. Yes, you can use the same grits for the bumper, just make sure you sanding PAINT....if you get to bare plastic, stop in that area.
GOOD LUCK!

yea i wouldnt go with anything more aggressive than 220 either. 120 could leave some nasty scratches behind espically if they are urethane bumpers.
before paint sand the whole car with 400 then 600 after the 400 to get any little scratches out and make sure you keep feeling the surface it should feel completely flat. Any little bumps or scratchs u feel with your fingers will be magnified 10 times when the paint is applied
