primer??
ok i have a question... i know that when you are prepping to paint a car you gotta use the primer but i was wondering if i could use a flat black spray can to do my car instead of the primer.. and when im ready to paint my car spray it gunmetal over that black...would it make a differnece? on quality if so how much cause when im gonna use a spray gun to paint the car and its gonna have some pearl with blue flakes added in the clear coat..
primer is primer, paint is paint, you will not find primer's properties in POS rattle can paint.
dont spray rattle can on it now, you'll be end up doing twice as much work undoing the damage.
when you buy the primer, make sure you use one with the right color, don't use something very very dark or the color can bleed thru after the job.
you generally don't leave sh-t in your clearcoat, you add the pearl and other crap in the mid coat, the reason for it is that you might need to cut the top/clear coat for runs and other minor stuff. if you put craps in it and you cut it you can see the pattern

If you want to do the car do it right, spray bombs CANNOT be used for a base unless you were to get something like the KILLER CANS from alsa which has 2K paint in spray bombs, including 2K clears that are actual autmotive paint in a 2 stage can that after you activate it mixes the clear with the hardeners....
As for the base for the gunmetal though, black would be the best, and as for the blue flakes, I would not use flakes as they really ad up on the mil thickness of the paintjobs and are a b*tch to make lay flat, pardon my french. You can get heavy pearls and mica now taht look like flakes, ICE pearl from HOK and Alsa sells something similar too...

but as for the painting i was just gonna spray can the car flat black and then use my spray gun to paint the car cause i already have all my paints just not primer and i dont wanna spend to much money on primer... or would spray can primer be better than flat black cause im not to sure when ill get around to painting the car so i just want to have something for right now

Then go buy a couple gallons of PPG primer/sealer. Better than any spray can b.s. and if you are going to spray can the car flat black you'll have to sand it down and primer it later anyway. The primer/sealer will seal off your body work, if you've done any, and your car will need minimal effort whenever you are ready to put it in the spray booth.

Get K36 from PPG its not expensive, it can be used as a high build primer or a sealer primer and it is designed to work with the paint....
Most like 99 percent of teh spray bomb primers out there are laquers...and of the ones that arent none except ALSA has a catalyst in it, which means it will never fully harden.
BUY THE RIGHT STUFF AND DO IT ONCE, or you will be redoing it, and it will cost way more than if you had done it right the first time.
