Default Help with seized bolts

Being most of our cars are 10-13 years old rust is definetly an issue in the chasis. Anyone have any good advice for removing seized up bolts. I have an impact gun and wd-40 and I still can't get my driver side rear strut out. The bolt that holds it to the control arm wont move for ****.

WD-40 sucks as a penatrating lube. Use PB-Blaster.

Might have to get out a torch as well.

use a torch. get the collar (center of the bushing, most likely where she is stuck) nice and hot, then hit it with the gun. it will come out. i suggest having new bushing/control arm/bolts on hand and most likely you will need them.

Brake cleaner works good too.

Anything you spray on it won't do you any good unless you let it soak in. So if you are planning on doing some work, crawl under your car and give everything a shot the night before.

You are saying you need new controls arms to put suspension on? That seems a little rediculous.

Ok I got a torch now....how long am I supposed to keep a torch on the bolt before trying to remove it. I don't want to ruin anything.

bushings on our cars are old/crusty, especially in the ny climate. unfortuneatly, they seize to the bolts.

again, you are most likely going to need new bolts/bushings at the very least. if you are torching the collar in the bushing, you WILL damage the bushing and it will need to be replaced. you are saying you torched it, with a propane torch? those suck. also, where did you heat it? where in ny are you?

why would you torch the bolt, you only make the bolt expand and it gets more stuck, heat the area around the bolt, and ease her out. and i think a breaker bar would work a lil better than an impact gun

did you try pb blaster, liquid wrench or some other penetrant designed to loosen frozen bolts as suggested? wd-40 just wont cut it.

also, you need to apply the penetrant several times over a couple of days to give it a chance to soak in... and use a lot. careful, though... this stuff is flammable.
