only 4psi???
Ok got the turbo in finally. One thing, everything seems fine, but I ONLY HAVE 4 PSI OF BOOST! I'm using a Garrett T3 turbo bought from 93LSivic. I'm using an internal wastegate, and I tighten it to see if it was loose, but still only 4 pounds. Don't take me wrong, 4 pounds of boost is really great, but was wondering how 6 or max 7 pounds would be. Can somebody help. If more info is necessary, just ask. All help will be appreciated. TIA!
I believe all the vacuum lines are correct. The engine runs solid. But then again I can a turbo engine run with a bad vacuum line and seem ok? I don't know. No exhaust leaks, that 100% sure. And as for boost gauge, I'm using the autometer vacuum to boost gauge. I heard it was quite accurate. Oh and 1 more thing. It doesn't hit boost in 1st gear until the revs get pretty high up. On all other gears, it's a little past 3000, but first grear needs to be high for it to hit boost. Oh thanks for the quick response.
I think your vacuum at idle should be like 21mmHg or something on your boost guage if it reads in pounds.
My buddy went through the same problem as you. He replaced all his vacuum lines in hopes there was a leak. He checked the intercooler to see if there was a crack that prevented boost. He messed around with the BOV.
All in all the problem was that his catalytic converter was clogged. You couldnt see through the honeycombs. I guess he was burning a little to rich or something.
Anyways, he put on a high flow cat and he is back up to 14 psi of boost. I personally would of put on a straight/flex pipe but that's just me!
Try disconnecting your exhaust from your down pipe and see if you are building boost. If you are you can bet your cat is clogged.

What's your wastegate rated at? Also, are you runnin an intercooler? If your wastegate has a 6 or 7lb spring, there could be a 2-3psi pressure drop through the piping. Try a manual boost controller, their cheap. That should get you up to your 7psi.
If you are running a 6psi. wastegate, and have a intercooler you would only have like 4psi. gettting to the intake manifold. This usually happens if the vacuum line that goes to the wastegate is run from the wastegate to the turbo. Some people run from the vaccum line from the wastgate to the intake manifold to get the full boost amount. I heard that was a bad idea. I would leave it the way you probally have it.
Hey B20. Sorry I forgot that you Im'd me. So you bought it off of James huh?
Anyway, you might want to check over the vacuum lines--not only check over them, but check the size of them. You should have a 6mm (I think) line on the wastegate actuator. Also, rememeber the wastegate arm is threaded, try shrtening the arm and that should up the boost. I would definetly run a boost controller, a manual one would do. Reason is because no matter what a wastegate will open and leak boost even up until the rated spring in it. If you run the manual boost contoller, it wont let the wg open at all until the set amount. Pressure drop would have something to do with it also.
You need to tell us your exact setup to diagnose further. Glad to see your boosting---I didnt even receive my turbo in the mail yet and I still need to sell my drag manifold and buy another one along with a downpipe.
