Default Is my starter going out?

96 accord ex manual 200k

When i go to crank her up the first 2 times i turn the key i hear the faint click click sound, and then everytime for some reason the 3rd time is the charm and the car starts up.....it just started doing this. The battery is 6 months old, the spark plugs are new. The distributor cap and wires are 2 1/2 years old.

yes it could be the starter,, make sure that all the battery cables are tight and not corroded ,,,,,,,a quick test you might try have someone try starting car and when it clicks hit starter with a big screwdriver or pipe if it start there is ur problem

There's a possiblity it could be. Have you tried rolling it then popping the clutch? Try jumping the starter solenoid directly from the battery. Touch a wire from the positive terminal to the solenoid and see if it starts up. If anything, go to a Pep Boys and have them do a charging system diagnosis. It will help you rule out parts. It's about $20 so it's a good investment in narrowing down the possible suspects. If your battery/alternator/starter are all good, you may have an electrical problem elsewhere.... It could also be the ignition switch itself. I've had it go bad on my '95 LX wagon....

I'll try this tomorrow after i replace a sparkplug

Here's another question, I replaced my dist. cap, wires and button after i found the #3 wire tip completely corroded to blue/green dust. I didn't replace the #3 sparkplug, I'm guessing the sparkplug could be coated in oil/gunk since it wasn't getting any juice for the few trips i had to ride in the car with this problem......i'm also curious as to why i didn't get a CEL with my #3 wire tip being completely corroded, i'll replace that tomorrow and see if that is the problem
