Default Car Problems :( 89 DX

Alright I have multiple problems. First I noticed today as I was driving home from work. As I get to 40-50MPH my car makes a HORRIBLE noise! It kind of sounds like 3rd and 4th gear are swaying back and forth. This happens about every 5 minutes or so and will last a good 30 seconds to a minute. It will also make my stick jerk violently back and forth. While the stick is jerking by itself it will make a horrible screeching noise. Second problem, I was driving about 10 minutes ago to go pick up my sis and I was watching my speedometer then at about 30MPH it just dropped to 0 and now speedometer, odometer, and tripometer no longer work. As far as I can tell thermostat readout and gas readouts are still functional. While my car is making that swaying noise in 4th gear wont go past 55MPH for some reason, it usually goes much higher than that in 4th. Now I don't know what my RPM's are because my particular model car never shipped with a tachometer. If you guys can shed any light as to what to look out for and maybe some estimated prices it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Start shopping for a new trans.....And why are you still driving that thing like that, do you have to kill it? Can't you just let it die peacfully?

ok the dropping on the speedo sounds like your cable broke. a new cable is 33 bucks at honda so go get one. the cable comes out of your firewall and goes down into your tranny, it clips in.

the other part it could be a motor mount or your tranny. i know broke motor mounts shimmy the shifter pretty darn good but my tranny is going bad and i don't have the same problem you do. have you checked your fluid level?

Well just got back from the mechanic, he said it sounds like there are bad bearings in the tranny. He estimated 500 labor and a few hundred parts. I think I am just gonna give it to my sis and let it be her money pit and get me a 95 or something know of a good one :D
