Default why are there 2 map sensor codes 3 and 5??

i finally got my wiring correct by tracing back to the ecu by color....

im stil getting a cel showing only code 3 looked up in ecu thread and it says map sensor... but there is anotehr map sensor code 5..

after reading through archives i se most people get code 5 not code 3 but i am getting code 3... what does this mean?? is it possible that by trying so many different wire combonations i shorted out the map sensor ??

just trying to figure out whats the difference between code 3 and 5

Nothing. Code 3 is for MAP curcuit and so it is code 5. The only difference is that code 5 is for D15b7 (DX/LX). The map for the d15b7 has different vacuum lines and vavles then other d-series.

If you find the problem for code 3, it will probably find the problem for code 5 too.

BTW, you getting code 13 by chance?

Code 3 point toward an electrical problem. Code 5 points toward a mechanical problem.

I was throwing a code 3 for almost 6 months. Finally the map sensor took a **** on me and the car would just shut off in the middle of driving sometimes. I purchased a new one from honda and it ran like a charm.

realy? well im going to get a new one today anyways..

i have anothe question though.. when you throw a CEL cod 3 for MAP VTEC does not engage correct? i was under the assumption that when ever you have a CEL vtec does not engage...

but my last civic vtec would engage even if i through say a o2 sensor cel just trying to get some confirmation here...

i was throwing code 21 last night for vtec solonoid.. fixed that now i dont throw a 21 code anymore only code 3 but still vtec does not engage .. i was pretty sure that it was because of the CEl so i wasnt that worried last nigh about it

If it is a code for a main sensor (MAP, TPS, etc) the ECU will disable vtec. 02 sesnor codes will not disable vtec.

Pull the map off and see if it holds vacuum, if not, replace it.

Yes, With the key in the on position, measure the voltage between D17 (+) and D21(-). You should have about 3v

Now, start the engine and let it idle for a bit, measure it again. It should be around 1v.

If either one is not reading right, first check the wiring (I posted it in your other thread) then, replace it.
