How come my AC is not cold when the weather is real hot?
93 Honda Civic EX Coupe
- Did the conversion from R12 to R134a last summer
- Recently replaced the AC Compressor and Evaporator
- R134a level is full
- Cleaned out blower
AC is cold in the mornings and evenings when the sun is out but it blows hot air during the day when the weather hits over 95.
Can anyone tell me what could be wrong? I am tearing my hair out.
Thanks.

Did you evactuate the system when you switched over the refrigerant and replaced those parts? that could be the proplem right there.
It was evacuated when the conversion to R134a was done. So the AC was cold last year till this Spring when I found that the compressor was leaking so I had it replaced with the evaporator.
Another thing. I suspect it could be an electrical problem but I can't locate the fuse for the AC to check it. Anyone know where it is located?

i have the same problem. my high side is restricted from the compressor to the condensor so on really hot days the pressure gets too high and the high pressure switch turn the ac off.
If a shop charged your system...take it back and have them service it with the correct amount of refrigerant. Your freon can't pull warm air from the interior of your car when it has no room to expand inside your evaporator coils(too much freon). Hope it helps.
each time you open up the ac system you have to replace the reciever & drier cause the desiccant absorb the moisture. plus you only charge the system to 80% of the new refrigerant for the r12 to the r134a system conversion.
The AC Fan and compressor comes on but the air is not cold. On a day where the temperature outside is over 95, the air blowing out from the AC is about 5 degrees lower. So you think the freon might be too much? How much is too much?
I have been monitoring the temperature of the air coming from the AC by sticking a cooking thermometer in the vents. I also bought one of those AC gauges from Walmart which you stick onto the low side of the AC Condenser unit and it is at the maximum.
