is Full exhaust illegal??
hey i just wonder is the Full Exaust illegal? Because it had no regisnator and no cat converter either, so will the check engine light come on once we had it on? And if i get the shorty header install with the full exaust will it work like race header? Because the test pipe already come with exaust....Thanks all..
wrong word choice. do you mean, smog legal? noise legal, in terms of restriction? i don't know the smog restrictions of south dakota, but as far as it being legal to use, it is really whether or not you want the hassle (ie. noise, tickets/ citations, check engine lights, unburned fuel smell etc.)
yea if u take ur cat off in cali its illegal....but if u have a cat back its not...cuz i had a cat back on my civic and i got sent to the referee and he said theres really no law for the exhaust...but hey he could wrong just what he told me

not around here!
removal of a functioning factory catalytic converter from a vehicle before 10 years or 50,000 miles ( ithink it's 50,000) is illegal by federal law. it's illegal everywhere. there is a big fine (somewhere around order of 3000-5000) and possible jail time.

federal EPA regulations require all cars after 197? to be equipped from the factory, this is for all 50 states. and like the guy said it is a violation of Federal EPA law to remove a catalytic converter that is functional. any legitimate exhaust shop will tell you this. but who is checking? do you have an anual vehicle inspection department?

not necessarily, unless you exhaust is over 93 decibles at 3300 rpm under California Vehicle Code 27151. so technically if you get pulled over for a modified exhaust doesn't mean that it is illegal. thats why companies like greddy and **** spend all there flow just to make their exhaust 50 state legal so ya, just so long as your exhaust is not higher than that decible reading you should be cool.

Yes it is 93db and its 27151 in the vehicle code. The law was passed in 1979 but because of low funding the law was never put in place. Thats why when u get a ticket for noise or modified exhaust go to court , tell them all that and you'll win just like i did
Oh yeah and modified exhaust are NOT illegal , its only illegal if u dont have an exhaust or if ur exhaust is not working.
Watching a cop all distraught because he lost to a guy like me...PRICELESS

doesnt section b contradict section a?? what i get from it is (a) you cant modify your exhaust BUT (B) if you do it cant be louder than 95db

27151b basically sets the limit for a (at least for vehicles less and 6000 pounds (except motorcycles) and the testing procedure to be used.
or
27151a says you can't modify an exhaust if the modification causes the noise to rise above the limit stated in b...
27150 says muffler required and no cutouts or bypasses are allowed
also, iirc fed requirement to maintain factory cat as long as the vehicle warranty covers it - and there is usually a special federally mandated cat warranty of 10 years or something...

If you're running an exhaust without a catalytic converter then, YES it will come on. Some simple solutions for this are to buy the Caspers O2 simulator which is a little module that plugs into the secondary O2 sensor plug OR make the Mechanical O2 simulator. Go to http://www.i-vtec.net and look for the technical tutorials, they have write up on how to make the mechanical simulator.
