Default Smoking when shifting...

I have a 95 ls/vtec turbo integra, my friend says it smokes whenever i shift. He said blue smoke so i figure its oil burning or something oil related. Checked vtec oil line, oil feed to the turbo, and play on the turbo. I also ran a compression test and got 1: 175, 2: 172, 3: 172,4: 185. Any other ideas???

oil going through combustion chamber. Maybe you're rings are going out or your valve seals.

You can still have good compression numbers with worn oil rings.

also check your pcv valve but yes blue smoke means water is getting in your combistion chamber.

hrmm i thought blue smoke was oil in the combustion chamers, and white is water.....hrrrmmmm, but yea if you have a turbo id also say check your seals in your turbo and your oild pressure feeding your turbo

if coolant, not water, is getting in your combustion chamber(head gasket or cracked block) then the smoke would be white. however, if the motor is smoking blue exhaust then it is burning oil. sounds like the valve seals since it happens when you push the clutch in and the revs drop a little(no load on the motor). bad piston rings letting oil in would usually show blue smoke towards the upper rpm range. pcv valve is a possiblity...and the easiest the change out.

i sure hope you are using coolant and not water. even though the engine is "water-cooled".

do a leak-down test....that should tell you if it's between the rings or seals

Can a LS-Vtec get 175-185 on the compression test? Did you get the internal of the engine done? What's the C/R of the piston? Your compresion number are close to a Type R and the piston C/R are 11.0-1

how old is your turbo kit? i use to have a turbo and the only time it ever smoked was when the turbo was going bad, oil was going into the turbo but was unable to cycle through and it was just burning it. white smoke would pour out, but it wasnt on a shift, it was while i was giving gas at any speed
if not that id have my rings replaced

water is coolant. the green stuff is antifreeze. technically, you could run on distilled water if it's not too cold.

Definitely run a PCV valve or a catch can setup... w/o a PCV valve crankcase pressure will go nowhere... Blue= smoke, coolant= white smoke
