Ok, crutchfield claims only 5.25" will work in my 95 SI hatchback. I was wondering if I could pull of 6.5" speakers? Anyone done this? If so, what brand did you use? Depth is probably a concern !?! Thanks!
Also, I was considering a 5.25" midbass in the rear, will that work or again will depth be the issue?
Thanks!

I have never seen a 5.25" speaker in any Honda/Acura 4" in some of the older ones 6x9" in some newer ones the rest have all been a "standard" 6.5", not the new "over sized" 6.5" on most pre 96 Honda/Acuras the oem speaker mount, [front] have a screw hole pattern, [4 screws] for 5.25" speakers although they come with 6.5" speakers, in Canada anyway, the mounts also have the 3 screw hole pattern for the 6.5" speakers, and yes depth is an issue, you can gain up to 3/4" if you cut out the back of the speaker mount, and depending on the speaker, up to 3/4" if you add a spacer ring. For best sound replace the oem plastic mounts with custom MDF ones.

thanks, but believe me - check crutchfield.com and choose 95 Honda Civic SI and you will see what I mean. I will replace the rings as well with MDF ones. Thanks!
That is NOT TRUE AT ALL!!! Ive owned 4 92-95 civics and all 4 of them use 5 1/4 " speakers in the doors. I think my 94 4dr had 6 1/2's in the rear decklid. I can promise you that this info is true. I fiberglassed some enclosures for my front door panels so that I could put 6 1/2's in the doors. It is REALLY easy to do and I will try to post some pics when I get my car back (getting painted, will have it back monday). It'll cost you about 50 or 60 bucks to do and it will take about 2 hrs (other than the time it takes tyhe glass to dry) to do.

Yep, I agree. To double-check - I popped off the side panel speaker cover/grill and pulled out the rear speaker - guess what - its a 5.25"...I measured it.
I am going to check the doors as well next.
Anyone know where I can get a 5 1/4" spacer ring? That would help my install

You can get these adaptors to fit 6.5s evidently.

I wish I knew what mounting depth I could fit in the doors. I want to put a 6.5" component set in the doors and move the 5.25" speakers to the back.

Don't forget what speaker manufactures are calling 6.5" speakers now a days is an OVER SIZED 6.5" they are not STANDARD 6.5" speakers.
Again I am not saying that no Honda/Acura ever came with 5.25" speakers but in 30 years of installing I have not seen one, in Canada anyway, also if you measure the cone on a STANDARD 6.5" speaker, it's about 5.25", the biggest diff., [other then size]between a 5.25" and the 6.5" is the way they mount the 5.25" speaker basket is almost square and has mounting holes in the 4 corners of the basket for mounting the speaker, the STANDARD 6.5" speaker basket is round and uses 3 screws to mount, most aftermarket STANDARD 6.5" speakers will have a number of holes/slots, for diff. mounting patterns, [Ford offset 4 screw mount]94

Dude, dont get so offensive. It really doesnt matter how long youve been installing, (Ive been doin it for about 10 yrs though, he he,.... couldnt help it). I know what I know and in this case,......I KNOW WHAT SIZE SPKRS GO IN A 92-95 CIVIC.
On the ring spacer, I would wait if I were you. My car is getting painted right now but as soon as I get it back (prob mon or tues) I will post pics of the door enclosures I made for my 6 1/2's. They take the place of your stock speaker grills and they are easy to make. I will give you detailed instructions on how to do it or I will just sell you mine and make some more. With this enclosure, you get a much tighter sound and like I said, It is easy. 1 1/2 hrs max!!!
Just remind me(ADD lika a ****,..I WILL forget)

I always wondered why the screw mounts for a 5.25" speaker where in the speaker mounting basket of Honda/Acura when every one I have seen comes with a 6.5", I have even installed more then a few 5.25" speakers in them, [most leave a small gap around the edge, so the speaker is not sealed] even checked with my local Honda dealer, they only have a p/n for a 6.5", [for front doors] Also checked at Acura, same thing, Both Honda and Acura parts Dept. could not tell me what the extra holes where for, other then to say, maybe other countries use smaller speakers, well daaaa.
