The b16 tranny is very good. I'd stick with that if it's working properly.

For the type r tranny you'll need the cable to hydro conversion. Hasport makes this kit.

b16a tranny would work great. try to get one with lsd, though. if you want, you could swap in an ls fifth gear.

to swap in a type r tranny, you'd need the hydro to cable conversion mount kit from hasport, or to make your own mounts, etc.

you can pull one from a used 90-91 LS tranny. as far as getting the 5th gear, syncro, and ring new(which you will need all three to work) acura doesnt sell them anymore or so my local dealer says. they're jerkoffs so don't take that statement as fact.

to replace, its sorta simple, gotta pull the case and its right on the end of the mainshaft next to the outer bearing. My advise get a 90-91 integra factory manual. they are built the same only the gears, syncos, splines, and rings are different.

yeah, if you find a LS tranny it will swap right over, again you need:

1. 5th gear
2. syncro and the ring(the smaller toothed thingy in pic)

and 3. the sleeve set

what it does is lower the ratio for hyw driving since the b16a tranny 5th gear will turn roughly 5k rpm@ 80mph. this will lower it to alittle under 4k.

faster? no
better high speed driving? yes

I remembered a little bit ago that you will aslo need the counter gear that the 5th gear meshes with. if my memory serves me correctly, theres a 21mm nut similar to an axel nut on the counter shaft(center gear shaft). check with the book too about crush washers as if you remove these the will also need replacing.

hope everything werkz out for ya!
