how do i tell if i have lsd tranny
just got obd0 jdm b16 swap for my 91 civic and i was told that i have an lsd tranny how can i tell if i have an lsd tranny and i was also told the with this motor in my 91 civic si i'll be doing like 14 seconds on the track is that true
it you look in the tranny hole where the axles go in it, there shouldnt be a bar going across teh opening, if there is a bar going across you have an open differential
well, one way is to get your street wet with a garden hose, and have your friends stand on each side of the street, then put the front end of your car in the water and do a burn out.. see if both wheels are spinning or only one. if only one is spinning, you dont have an lsd. if both are spinning, then you do. you could do this on a dry street too, but thats up to you. you could also take the tranny apart to find out. there might be some kind of stamp on the tranny where you could look too, but i think my way is more fun.
jack up the front of your car, spin one wheel, if the other spins the same direction it is LSD, if it spins opposite its an open diff.
If you have the motor and tranny already installed lift the front up with a jack and push your tire by hand and if the other side moves the same way too you got lsd.

this doesn't always work. My integra, with open diff, will leave 2 black stripes on the ground if you drop the clutch on level ground.
now, if one tire is in a puddle, and the other is on dry ground, it will only spin one tire. But if the surface is even, and you have the steering wheel straight, you can spin both tires.

Definately the right way to tell!!!!
Like Mike said if the surface is even and wheel straight it WILL spin both tires!!! My CRX lays two nice even blackies and I sure as hell don't have LSD!

my rex lays 2 strips also it did with the stock si tranny and the new sohc zc tranny lays em both down two and no lsd in eaither of them so thats not an accurate way to tell
people seem to be mistaken when it comes to limited slip. it does not give you more traction going straight, in turn, it does not make your car faster by any means. what it does do is keep your inside tire from "unloading" i.e. slipping when lifting weight off during hard cornering. GREAT for autocross, pointless for drag. if you really want full traction for drag. get a spool i.e. locked diff. but then you cant turn for **** with out snapiin yer axles.

what if, when the axles are out, you can see thru it but it has a small "bar" going across. i have a y1 tranny but its not marked lsd, though i have been told it was lsd...j/w. T.I.A.
EDIT: nvm i should have read the whole thing...when i jack it up, they spin opposite ways, thanks guys....

Thats because lsd does this...
