Default Question for the R owners that are boostin

Do you guys ever think about goin NA or what it would've been like...any regrets at all. and if you guys were to change your mind and go NA...would that be ok for the motor?

i'm asking bc of the possibly that i might end up buying an R that has boost or has had boost. TIA

- Paul

To answer your question, see the attatched link... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1276395

Too much power in a FWD chassis is a bad thing, and yes there is such a thing. If I end up keeping the boost, I will downsize the turbo to chase a more linear powerband. IMO, Type Rs are meant to tear around a track not down the 1/4 mi. And peaky high hp turbos are conflicting with that paradigm.

wow. thanks man, that's pretty much all i needed i guess. your setup was pretty damn impressive tho...so impressive i could see why you would want to go back to n/a or low boost. good luck with everything

Thanks, I am not saying don't try boost, if you can afford the setup and afford to maintain it, both money wise, and the cost of your sanity, by all means give it a shot. It is very rewarding to hit boost, but a strong VTEC is just as meaningful, just lacking some of the pull.

I love boost but I would love to have a bad *** all motor set up as well. IF I could choose though I think I would still go turbo.

imo the only decision factor should be if you have the money to rebuild, its well worth it, a mild setup can be fun for daily driving, but you'd still need a backup car so thats more money right there.

nothing better then VTEC Turbo. with good engine management tuning, you could produce a power band appropriate for track racing. go turbo...

i'm not so sure how to put this...but i'll try

is it ok for a motor that has had boost on it to go n/a?
i mean, i'm sure it's possible but i guess what i'm trying to say is, will the motor still be as strong and reliable as a motor that has never seen boost? or would you fellars recommend just finding a replacement motor that has never been boosted?

If it's a stock motor, and compression is fine, it's not an issue. Just replace the injectors/fuel pump/IHE/ECU/etc stock parts and go. hell, you could probably leave the ECU and fuel alone and retune it if it's Hondata/etc.

If it's a built motor, it's probably 9:1, and you'd want to rebuild it again with higher compression if you went N/A. That would be a pain.
