Weather protection guards...to uninstall or not to uninstall

I've been thinking about uninstalling some of the weather guards on the car. My friend says the wheel well trim (the plastic strip on the edge of the rear wheel well) inhibits rust by trapping in moisture.
So the question is, should I do it or is it better to just leave as is? The other piece I would remove is the front splash guard (the big piece of plastic under the radiator (as seen in Aleph's pic of the stock front mounting location).

If you're speaking of the guard pictured, leave it in for both daily driving and tracking. You'd be amazed how much sand, salt, etc will make it to your engine bay without it
Leave it in

Not the mud flaps...it's a 1" plastic strip that goes around the fender edge.
What are weather guards? Mud flaps? Why would you remove the front splash guard? I would keep that in place.
