I hear all the talk about cable and hydro trannies but what is the difference bettween them (yes i know one has a cable and one is hydrolic)

You can make a hydro tranny work on a cable car with an adapter from someone like Hasport. Im not sure about making a cable tranny work with a hydro tranny though.

 

saying hydro or cable tranny is a common misconception. Its the two differnmt styles of clutch engagement and disengagement. a cable tranny uses a solid steel rod cable to connect your clutch quadrent ( box that the pedel attaches to) to the clutch fork on the outside of the transmission( part that pushes the throw out bearing into the pressure plate to engage and dis engage the clutch). A hydro clutch uses a clutch master cylinder attached to the clutch quadrent and pedel. when you depress the pedal it sends hydro fluid to a slave cylinder which has a rod that activates the clutch fork. You can convert cable to hydro and hydro to cable. you can find kits made to do this through hasport.com. In regards to your d15, i believe it is hydro, look on the fire wall next ot the brake master cylinder, if you see a smaller one that looks like a brake mastercylinder you have a hydro.

Hydro trannys have alot better feel and are self adjusting.
At least I think they feel better.

 

both cable and hydro trannys have the good and bad. cables always get stuck when they're old becuase of the lubrication, but hydro also have internal/external leaks in the master/slave cylinder.

 

wat i hear u can feel the cable tranny when u relase the clutch.. and not as soft as hydro

 

FYi: THrough manufacturing aspect... cable trannys are cheaper to make than hydraulic. If you think about... all the cars nowadays only have hydraulic due to the car manufacturers finding lower cost to make them..
Hydraulic is better, more efficient

 

Internally the trannys are not that different..Mostly just the shift forks..But perfomance wise, well that all depends on gear ratios and FDs...(I build honda trannies)..As far as most people saying you can feel this and that..It also has to do with your pressure plate..You can adjust a cable tranny to release on the floor or way up top..(One man adjustment..) Harder to adjust a Hydro by yourself..

 

i prefer hydro clutches they work a little smoother
