Default Tranny Problem...

Hello all,

It seems my D4 light is blinking indicating some sort of transmission problem. I checked the fluid and it's full and clean. It seems to drive fine though I only drove it for a few minutes after it started blinking and it was in a neighborhood so I never got out of 3rd gear. There are no physical problems that I can see so I am wondering if there is anyway I can find out what the code is without having to go to a dealer. If it helps I was driving the car for roughly 6-7 hours before the light came on. By the way, it's a 94 Accord EX.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am currently out of town and don't really know the area or the people so I'd hate to get screwed over by a dealer or tranny shop. Thanks in advance.

What trouble code does it have stored?

What makes you think they'll screw you over?

yo sj it is people with attitude like yours that makes us HONEST techs making an HONEST living really mad,, your assumption of getting screwd even before you meet the people and give them a chance no offense but that is really close minded ..there might be a few dishonest shops out there but 1 bad apple does not make a whole bushel so please don't go on thinking like that ,,,there are a lot more HONEST ones than you think

I have nothing against you man. I speak from experience. From various places around the country. It's hardly a closed-minded view. It would be close-minded had I not had the experiences that I have. Then I could agree with you. I have come across some good tech's who were honest and did a good job. To go around and believe everything people tell you would be stupid on my part. That is how you get ripped off. Furthermore I plan on going to a local Honda dealer here and having them look at it. I don't go into a shop with the mindset of being screwed over, it's all dependent on what they say and how they say it. But again from prior experience I am not entirely trusting of anyone. So please do not say "people like me" give you tech's a bad name. I'm not trying to give you a bad name. I have given tech's chances upon chances even after they screw something up not once, or twice but three times. So excuse me if I am skeptical. I'd rather be skeptical than walk in blindfolded. If you were near here I'd be happy to take my car to you as I've seen your posts and you are very helpful on here. The same can't be said of all technicians.

Chio,

I don't know what trouble codes it has stored. I drove it for around 20 miles today and the light never started blinking and it shifted just fine. I'm still going to take it in though.

i had the same exact problem with my car....it turned out to be shift solenoid C that had to be replaced...the symptoms i had was blinking D, and sometimes P blinking while i was driving, sometimes when shifting from P into D it would slam into D rather hard...but when driving....no symptoms at all
