b20z has more torque and horsepower because it has higher compression. If you wanna turbo with stock internals, might as well get the older ones, since the Z is harder to find.
I hope you're going to be running slicks, with a fully built vehicle because the power and torque you put down, won't be easy to handle. 300hp is ideal. I'm also doing a B20VTEC, stock internals, t3/t04e turbo or slightly larger, gsr tranny... (= Mine will be street, so I'm trying to avoid large power/torque down low.. because I will just spin spin spin!
I was under the impression that the B20Z had the same cam profile as the B18B, which is a bit better than the B20B cam's. That's the main difference besides compression. They're all really the same (non-vtec B18/B20) when you bore it and change the cams/pistons.
B20B4 in my 96 hatch easily beats my 99Si. Also, B20B4 in my 96 hatch vs. 97 hatch with B18C. B20 takes the B18C off the line with it's great torque, but when the VTEC kicked in on the B18C, the non VTEC B20B was left behind.
Want to VTEC mine too. Looks like about $1,000-ish for the conversion... Also, be sure not to go with aftermarket or type-R cams on your B20 VTEC motor. Your valves will hit your pistons. Stock cams with no more than 2 degrees advance on intake and 4 on exhaust.
Anyone know anything different?

of course your b20 hatch smoked your 99 si.. i beat 99 si's in my 94 ex d16z6 coupe... (= but then again you later stated that you don't even have VTEC... so.. good job!
now you just need VTEC... $400 head, $100 VTEC conversion kit, and $200 have someone do it for you. Shouldn't be too expensive, definitely bang for the buck!

Hard to find a head for $400... Does that include solonid and ECU? I have $400 right now, I would pay that. Conversion kit is easy to find. As for the labor, I wouldn't let anyone else take away the fun part. I had better get my *** looking for a $400 head.
Thanks for the inspiration!
