can't take cat out?
so i went to minike today to get a test pipe made and and every one told me i could w/o the check engine light coming on but minike wouldn't do it cause the check engine would turn on and they said i would ruin the o2 sensor, is there a why maybe to leave it out or move it somewere else i have a 94 gs-r and my o2 sensor goes into my stock cat i still have the stock header and a world sport exhaust
well first they know that and he didn't want to take it out cause i would mess up the sensor and 2 cause of the light but they wouldn't listen to me and i know the owner and the one worker makes nice test pipes and made one for my other car but i wanna know if ill pass w/o the cat in? i heard i can
you will never pass emmisions without the cat in. that is its purpose besides making it quieter. you can put it in yourself as long as the bolts aren't melted together like mine haha. just bolt it up. jackstands would be fine.
bull! People have passed emissions without cats before you just need to tune a little leaner in the higher vaccum of the maps. I have a turbo setup and plan to pass emissions with flying colors with no cat. No the check enigne light shouldn't come on since the sensore comes before the cat anyway. As long as it's hooked back again the 02 heater check engine light shouldn't come on. The guy at Mienke is wrong

around here in MA if there is no cat there is no way in HELL they will ever pass you let alone even run the car. they would tell me to get it fixed and then bring it back.
i jus wanted to know if the check engine will turn on if i take out the sensor for the cat and put in the test pipe or do i have to put in the sensor in the test pipe then? and i do know people who have passed w/o a cat thanks for all the replys also
then since id be taking out the test pipe when emmisions come around would i be able to move the sensor b4 or after the cat instead of in it?

That's only correct for non-vtec 94 integras. A 94 GSR will have one o2 in the cat only.

if you have a bung in your new test pipe, the CEL will not come on with an obd1 computer. I don't know why they said your o2 would be ruined by running with a CEL on, that is not true.
Next time you need to do emissions, just take out the test pipe, unscrew the o2, put in your old cat, screw in the o2, and you're set. Some shops have a problem with making a testpipe and installing it because of legal issues. It's probably better to just take them some measurements, tell them to put a bung in it, take it home and install it yourself.
