V-Tec?
What is it. Whats it do, hows it work if possible.
I just swapped out, my non v-tec motor, out of my 93 del sol SI, and replaced it with a v-tec motor, is that all i have to do? I have heard that a v-tec might need more in order to function properly. I just swapped the motor out, and bolted the new one in, matching wires, and such, didnt have any problems, but im not sure if they v-tec would be working or not.

Are you making a statement? or Asking a question?
What engine did you swap in? b18c1, b18c5, b16a2, b16a3, b16b, h22?

You swapped out the motor with no problems, but you dont know what VTEC is? Yes, most likely you need to add the wires. VTEC Pressure, VTEC Solenoid and a ground for the Pressure Switch... do a search and you will come up with your answers.
b16b, it was a question, just curious to the mystery of the v-tec.
I was just asuming that i would slap it in, and everything would work, then heard that i have to hook up the v-tec, and am completly unawares as to how to handle this task, or even if i have to.

ya there is no dash, as said before you have to wire it up and vtec works fairly simply... go to howstuffworks.com it has a good explaination

ok one other question. If i dont, "hook up" my v-tec, will this cause harm to the motor? It seems to be working fine, and i have a fair amount of power.
Just curious, as of right now i dont have the time to do any wiring. It would be helpfull if i could just wait to hook it up.
Thanks for all the help. I am a newb to this site, and to working on my own cars. Grabed a Haynes manual, and went to work.

I dont know if it would have the seleniod, or the vtec pressure all in place, as far as i can tell the new motor, is nearly identical to the old motor, in every way. Except the old one does not say v-tec on it, and the front top motor mount bracket was differnt for both motors.
The del sol si did not come with a vtec motor
Vtec only came with the del sol vtec model, which he now essentially has seeing as he swapped in the engine.
While I dont know the answer as to whether or not it will continue to work w/o problems w/vtec not being used, you'll want to wire everything up soon. The main reason people swap in b16's is for vtec

Ever heard of the y8?
Right i can understand wanting the v-tec motor, but my old one blew, and i got this one at salvage, with 45k miles, for 550$, i know the guy, and it was a good motor. I just wanted something to run, and didnt even know i was purchasing a v-tec, until i got to the yard to pick it up. I had simply asked for an engine that would fit in my car, and thats what he had. While i am glad i got a v-tec, i simply know that it is better, i dont know why, as i said, i am very new to this whole car thing lol.
Its just I love my del sol, and want to keep it running. The body, and frame are great, and it has served me well.

What I meant was it was not the model that he swapped in there. It seemed like the first post was implying that he did the swap for nothing, and I wanted to make sure the guy knew he actually did upgrade the thing.

bullshit you got a b16b motor for 550 bucks, there is no way in hell, and its not V-TEC god damnit, its VTEC, no dash, no h, just vtec, god. Ohh and just because the valve cover doesnt say vtec on its doesnt mean it didnt have it, your del sol si did have a vtec motor, its a d16z6 SOHC VTEC motor. just an fyi, u know jack **** about cars

i agree 100% why cant people just effin call it vtec, if it says it right on your motor, then you think ud get the hint of how to spell it lol. To me i wonder if u actually did the swap yourslef, someone that knows that little couldnt have possibly done the swap

VTEC = Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control
Honda actually makes more than a dozen different engines with VTEC.
Basically it increases valve depth via a secondary cam lobe for more power.

Did you get the ECU for that motor? If your old car didn't have VTEC then you won't have VTEC until you get the correct ECU.
-No, you will not harm your motor if you don't have VTEC wired up.
-VTEC motors have wierd cams in them that i guess widen up in a sense at a certain point (VTEC crossover point). At a certain RPM, depending on whether or not your motor is is warmed up and if you are going fast enough (15/20+mph) the ECU will crossover into VTEC, which tells the VTEC solinoid to push oil through the cams, making them widen up to open the valves more.
-Wiring shouldn't be too hard. Just search for topics about wiring VTEC and I'm sure you'll either find a link that shows you how or find a thread that will give you a link to wiring vtec.
BTW: I thought the Del Sol Si's had a D16Z6 Vtec motor. You went from D to B series with no tranny chagnes or anything?
edit: go look at the front of you motor, on the block, and give us the engine code.

The engine blew on me, and i was doing a replacement. The engine i purchased was a vtec model everything bolted up good bell housing and most of the motor mounts except for the top left mount. The bolts attached to the old engine are slightly offset, and the ones for the Vtec motor are inline, and seem closer to the chasis. In any case the mount i have will not work for the engine, i am having a horrble time findind the mount i need. Is there a mount that will fit both on the chasis, and the engine?
Also i have been searching the web on this for a while, and have heard things about the Vtec not kicking in. I am not real sure what the Vtec is. Is the car i have compatable, and what do i have to do to my SI to make the Vtec work?
Any help would be hot, thanks for bearing with me. This is my first attempt at swapping out an engine.</TD></TR></TABLE>
