Default Tranny Syncros

Here's one for all the Tech buffs. Would it hurt my syncros or prematurely wear them if I install a short shifter and some Mugen hard rubber shifter bushings?

This subject has been beaten to death. Some swear short shifter wear out synchros, however if you were to look at how your transmission operates and what exactly a short shifter does you would see that they don't wear synchros. What may be happening is people are not adjusting their shifting with the new shifter. ie shifting before the tranny is completely disengaged. I have a B&M pro and no problems.

A short shifter simply changes the pivot point of your shift lever- making the shift speed quicker- so if you move the short shifter at the same speed as the normal shifter- then you will be moving the collar over the blocking ring faster and essentially slowing the gear (or shaft)faster (increasing wear)- however- you can move the shifter slighty slower than you used to and all is good- shifting gears is really a 2 step action- you will notice you can push the shifter into gear and it has two steps. The first is the collar moving over the blocker ring and slowing the gear (or shaft)- the second is the collar moving over the gear when it (or the shaft) has reached the speed of the collar/hub. so to answer your question- yes and no. I doubt you would ever see the differnce in wear- but- in theory wear can be increased. The bushings might actually help because they keep the alignment of the shift linkage more stable than the stock rubber.
