Prep/No Prep taking to maaco
I did some search on " maaco" and i found about 6 thread on it. They show pictures of crx painted by maaco and it looks pretty nice. We'll my question is.. Do you have to sand the car and primer it before you take it there? Or can you just take it there and they'll do all the sanding and primer? Would it cost more if it's done that way or just sand / primer it before you go there. Please don't say paint it yourself.
Restoring a 15 and half year old crx paint... it's fading badly..

i would prep it first by sanding the whole car with 400 grit paper. they should spray a sealer, base coat and a clear. then find a detailer to wet sand and buff the paint to get rid of minor imperfectons and orange peal in the paint
Well, in all honesty, I probably wouldnt use Maaco unless u have no other option... My g/f bought a 95 Civic with a Maaco paint job about 2 yrs ago... The seller had it painted about a 1 before that... When we got it the paint looked real nice, nice and shiny... But now 2 yrs later, its dull and dingy... And peeling in spots...
I heard from various sources, Maaco is one of those places u take the car and have it done for like $500 right before u sell the car to make it look nice... But it dosnt usually last long...
That said, im sure they do have a more expensive paint job that will last... But its probably considerably more...
Bottom line is, as with anything, u get what u pay for...

i had my car painted at maaco and it looks pretty damn good. they don't prep the car unless you pay extra to have it prepped. i payed extra for the prepping, base coat and clearcoat. i also had holes in the doors underneath my side mouldings from rust, they cut and welded in new metal and it is almost impossible to tell that it was ever even done.
why not go to maaco? seriously everyone, our cars aren't worth a lot of money so why take it to an expensive body shop to have it painted? anyone who honestly says that they would pay to have a paint job that costs a couple thousand dollars on their 88-91 honda is either a liar or a fool.

Good ****... Macco also do paint jobs over 1,000 + dollars too. Depending on how many coat you one and how many thickness of base paint applied. It's all about the money.

sounds like the car was never color sanded if it started peeling or a bad prep job. ive had many of friends and even my dads 70 caprice done at macco with great results. just gotta look for the best one in town, go in when they arent slammed with other cars ( like taking it in on a monday rather than wednsday) and making sure they are doing exactly what you want. for a 4 year warrenty paint job for my crx it will run me only $506 with tax.
