Default eagle rods in a D16 how much do you need to grind

Ok machine shop called me yesterday and said that the eagle rods i was having put in hit the bottom side of the cylinder. I told him to grind it. He called me back and said he thought it was to much to grind. How much do you have to grind off should i be concerned with this or tell him to grind away and not be worried.

why would the eagle rods be hitting the block? are they the correct block for the rods? i don't see why you would have to cut anything out of the block to make them fit.
