Aight import fanatics! Need some expert opinions. I got about $3K to spend and I can't decide what route to take. For about a month now, I kept switching from one to the other. My goal is a reliable 350 WHP on a 97 Civic coupe. My current set up is a stock block D16y8, stock pistons, shotpeened rods, ported heads, 12 lb flywheel, Centerforce clutch, T3/T4 pieced by myself turbo kit with XS engineering FMIC, Type S BOV, FMU(piece of crap). Water/methanol injection. The car still runs but ready to be built again after 3 years of good abuse. Compression is going down, only 120 psi across. Just got Hondata S200.

personally i think you'll be alot happier with the h.

 

sell the d series kit and go h22 u will love it

Keep the d. Just dnt get the obx mani. stay stock or get a edelbrok or skunk2.

yes you can.

 

keep the d man.. with 3 g you can build the motor like you want you can easy have over 300whp with a custom turbo kit..

just read and pick the right parts the first time..

 

I second to that, yes yes you can get 300whp with the D with proper tuning. I'm not sure what's the limit with the stock block. Know couple D's running over 300whp and close to 400's but that's with sleeves. Anyone know? I know stock B series can handle well over 350whp. Honda blocks are strong. But without proper tuning, even a fully built even will go.

Thnx for the replies, hope to get some more. A D series with 350+whp will blow a V8's ego and a Turbo H22 in a EK Civic is tight. It's a matter of being humble with the D or show off the H.

u need axles/tranny/etc... itll cost more then 3k..

I like the turbo d setup. Did you consider an ls turbo setup?

 

built y8 turbo. 300whp easy with custom turbo kit, look on turbod16, there is someone with pistons and rods at about 260whp.

 

I did mention the axles in my setup. $399 from Hasport. I'm also aware of the headache that it involves doing the H22 that was why I included $600 for installation(a friend will install it for $600)I want to install it myself but I don't know what all that needed to be done..Also, both options are going to be turbocharged.
Yes, I did consider an LS turbo, I was in a junk yard today looking at some B18B's but decided not to. I still need to decide what to do with the H22 that's sitting in my garage. Put it in or sell it?

You got a lot of options. I'd be confused as to what I'd want to do as you are.

 

Turbo y8, cause its what I want to do. I got 2g saved up hoping to get another g soon so I can slap on an sc-61, until the d explodes then I'll swap to a b. The h will be a headache, but if you got the money, there is more potential in an H IMO.

 

D series is winning so far, it was H in the beginning. I guess D it is. Now I can sleep better. I just hate smoking in the garage looking at that freakin' huge valve cover that says DOHC VTEC. I have to put a blanket over it I guess, it keeps brainwashing me everytime I see it, did I mention the Greddy 18g that's mounted to it. Crap, here I go again. Thanks for the replies. I can accept more. Any one for H22's?

 

i would keep the d since u already got it. Work with what u got.
For the H22 don't u have to resleeve to add forged pistons.

I have 201 whp and 175 wtq on a stock D. 1500 bux invested.

 

Mahle pistons made pistons designed for H22 so you don't have to sleeve it. It has a goldish color coating on the side of the pistons. One of the reason why I wanted to keep the H22, but more work.

What will you choose? Sleeved D16 or Stock H22 with block guard?
