Default Turbo?

I've been thinking about boosting my 98 hatch (d15b, z6 head), but i'm a forced induction n00b.. would it be worth it, or should i just go b-series? keep in mind.. money IS an option

What are your future plans for the car? I would say boost the d. Just look up the dohc 1/4 thread, and compare those times to the Sohc 1/4 thread. you will be suprised at how slow alot of these single cams make the dual cams look.

Boost the D, home made kit could be cheaper then getting a b-serious swap!

if money is a factor, then boosting isnt for you. you'll spend and spend until you realize just how much you just spent.

anyways. id go b series but since money is an issue boost the D because if you blow it, D's are cheap to replace. Also, a b series tranny will cost you the same amount as a complete D swap

You could boost the D at a moderate 8 psi all day long for daily driving without getting too in depth with internal mods and would still be cheaper than going to similar hp B series.
BUT, going boost with a homemade kit is going to require a lot more testing and tuning than just doing a simple B series swap.
I think your looking at 50/50. Make yourself a budget, check out prices.

Either option is a money pit. Your doomed.

thats true. i only wanted to spend about $800 on my turbo kit, ended up putting close to $1400 in it. but i feel its worth it.

I cant even tell you how great ebay is if you know how to look out and what to buy....

You can get turbos ont here for like 100 bucks, than a manifold your your d-series for cheap too.....you can get intercooler piping and everything else you need also, and build it very cheap....thats what im doing...

or you can get the GReddy full trubo kit for i think 1200? which is GREAT and im thinking about that idea also

Good luck

Honestly, go B then turbo later like some ppl said. There might be chances that you are gonna blow that motor of yours because some dumb kid comes up next to you and revs your way. And thinking that you can whoop him, you decide to smoke him, then after smoking him. You hear a ding in your motor. Opps your bad. Go B-series man!!!!

nah boost the d series.....much more stable with boost and cheaper than a b swap...for the price of a b swap u can get a bunch of d motors and have trial and error times lol...but honestly man boost the d...and the greddy kit is a great way to go btw...i have a greddy hybrid kit....i have the turbo and the manifold and dp from the greddy kit but thats where the kit stops and custom takes over...ya it can get more expensive but sometimes u have to spend a bit more to get a much more stable setup....some people go the dsm injector route....me i went with a set of tunertoys correctinject 450cc injectors...full intercooler hard pipe kit and a nice size fmic and my car runs solid and like a top...just know ur limitations and for god sakes get a good engine management system....ie hondata or uberdata or chrome

I say work with what you got. Build it top to bottom, boost, tune it, easy 300whp. Plenty HP in the streets. I got a H22 sitting in the garage but decided to stick with the D. Sorry H. Also, set a goal, a realistic goal. 400whp in a civic coupe in the streets is a terror. Anything past that I believe is a waste of horsepower not unless your driving with slicks.
