Default Fuel pulsation damper necessary?

The little thing on the passenger side of the stock fuel rail is the fuel pulsation damper... it is supposed to 'smooth' out the fuel flow from the intank pump.

Does anyone know if this gizmo is really necessary? I just cannot think of a flow efficient way to include this in my new fuel setup.

I know of a few people who have never run that thing on their cars and they have no problems and are making tons of power. So go ahead and ditch it.

I would think that the fuel filter would do enough damping personally...
