Default MSD ignition question.

What MSD parts do i need for a B18B with just intake and exhaust?
I am adding pulleys and eventually cams and hondata, but was told the ignition should be best step.
I just dunno which to get. The SCI with a blaster 2 coil? I also am running upgraded plugs and wires already.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

well you dont need MSD for intake and exhaust. If you plan on going nitrous or forced induction then it is very handy. If your getting hondata you wont need the rev launch control and time retard control so I would just go for basic MSD with blaster coil.

I would go with the SCI or SCI-L box and the blaster SS coil...

Thanks man. I was looking those up and i think ill be getting those soon.

Does anyone know a reliable cheaper place to get a SS coil and SCI without rev limiter ignition.??????

I looked on ultrarev who i have used before but did not see the coil. kinda wanna do one buy for all if i can.

Spend your money elsewhere. A healthy stock ignition system can handle 350-400whp pretty easily. There are even a few dynos showing 450-500whp - so its more than adequate for the time being.

You throw on a MSD and you'll find yourself replacing caps/rotors/plugs a little more often and perhaps the ignitor too.

I was just told by a honda mech that used to race hondas it was a good step with pulleys and eventually im planning on cams and hondata.

Do they really cause that many problems? this is the first ive heard of that

If its honestly the first you've heard, then please search. Numerous threads pertaining to ignition problems after installing a MSD especially on engines with distributors that have some miles on them and are not serviced routinely. An MSD will show you where the weakest link is pretty quickly.

Its a 'racing' piece. Hell, NASCAR's keep two of them in there in case one dies. When you need some spark, get it - it does the job wonderfully - just don't expect things to last so long.

People on boost are successfully running stock ignition setups - it'll be just fine for your mild build.

You can go with a 6A or 6AL. They are the almost the same as the SC line. (6A= No rev limiter) (6AL=Has rev limiter).

I've never had a problem with my setup and it's been a little over a year...but maybe it's because it's setup right....box, external coil (ssII), cap, and wires...
